FAQs

  • The Hopeworks program is mainly designed to support people with depression and some of the content is specific to this. However, it is also open to others and we welcome those struggling with challenges such as anxiety, grief, isolation or low mood.

  • Usually we start off with something a bit light-hearted like a joke or short game. There is time for a bit of discussion about how we are going. Then we discuss the topic for the day, often starting with a talk on the subject by either a guest speaker (eg psychologist or dietician) or the group facilitator.

  • We hear and discuss information of topics relevant to recovery from depression, and important for general wellbeing, such as:

Exercise, Eating well for Mental Health, Medication, Thinking Well, Shaping Habits, Art and Music therapies, Loneliness and Connection, Managing anxiety, Building Resilience, Stories of Hope and Recovery and much more.

  • We want you to feel comfortable, and we know that sometimes people feel a bit anxious in groups, so no one is pressured to talk. However, we know that recovery comes partly from building relationships and being real with each other about our struggles, so we do encourage you to participate as fully as you can.

  • The Hopeworks groups are run by local churches. Program resources are provided by Hope Newcastle Inc.
